What legal services for iGaming operators actually cover
Running an online gaming operation means your legal needs span licensing, corporate, compliance, payments, IP, and tax work at once — usually across more than one country. Here is what a complete program looks like.
Gaming licence applications & renewals
End-to-end support for offshore gaming licences — Curaçao, Anjouan, Tobique and others — plus renewals, change-of-control filings, and coordination with regulators in more regulated markets.
Corporate structuring & governance
Holding and operating company structures, white-label and B2B platform setups, multi-entity governance, and cap-table housekeeping built around your licensing jurisdiction.
AML/KYC & responsible gambling
AML/CFT programs, KYC and player-verification flows, responsible-gambling policies, and the documentation regulators expect — kept current as rules change.
Payments & PSP agreements
Payment processing, PSP and acquiring agreements, settlement and chargeback terms, and crypto on-ramp arrangements reviewed so cash actually flows.
IP, content & platform contracts
Game and content licensing, software and platform agreements, white-label terms, and trademark protection so you own and can defend what you operate.
CFO-led tax & compliance
Gaming-duty and tax structuring, transfer-pricing logic, and ongoing compliance run by ex-CFO operators — built into the engagement, not bolted on after the fact.
How gaming licences compare
Most operators choose a licence based on their target markets, payment partners, budget, and timeline. These are the regimes we work with most — from fast offshore licences to high-reputation EU and MENA options — and the trade-offs between them.
Curaçao licence
The most common offshore gaming licence — historically one master licence covering most game types, now issued directly by the Curaçao Gaming Authority under the new LOK framework.
Anjouan licence
A fast, lower-cost offshore licence popular with early-stage operators and crypto casinos that want to launch quickly while building toward a stronger jurisdiction.
Nevis licence
The newest offshore regime, under the Nevis Online Gaming Ordinance 2025 (NOGA). Because St Kitts & Nevis is a FATF/CFATF-whitelist member, it offers Curaçao-tier banking and PSP access at a mid-market cost — a strong step up from Anjouan.
Tobique licence
A North American (Tobique First Nation) licence used by crypto-focused and sweepstakes operators, valued for its speed and acceptance among payment and platform partners.
MGA (Malta) licence
An EU-facing, higher-reputation regime with stronger market access and bank/PSP acceptance — more demanding and costly, suited to operators scaling into regulated markets.
UAE (GCGRA) licence
A new MENA option issued by the federal General Commercial Gaming Regulatory Authority across emirates including Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah. High reputation and a clear path for internet gaming, with stringent integrity and AML standards.
Flat-fee subscription vs. hourly billing
Traditional firms bill by the hour, so every email, review, and “quick question” grows an unpredictable invoice. A flat monthly subscription changes the incentives. Here is how the two models compare for a high-growth startup.
| Criteria | Flat-fee subscription (Point Legal) | Traditional hourly firm |
|---|---|---|
| Cost predictability | ✓ Fixed monthly fee — no surprise invoices | — Variable; the bill scales with every interaction |
| Cost of a quick question | ✓ Included — no clock running | — Billed in 6-minute increments |
| Turnaround | ✓ 24h average, standard SLA | — Depends on partner availability |
| Incentive alignment | ✓ Paid to resolve your task | — More hours billed = more revenue |
| Cross-border CSP coordination | ✓ Included across jurisdictions | — Billed separately or referred out |
| CFO-led tax & finance | ✓ Included (Full Service plan) | — Usually a separate firm and engagement |
| Best fit | ✓ High-growth fintech & web3 startups | — One-off litigation or large M&A |

Frequently asked questions
What legal services do iGaming and online gambling operators need?
At minimum: a gaming licence and corporate structure, AML/KYC and responsible-gambling compliance, payment and PSP agreements, IP and platform/content contracts, data privacy, and tax structuring. Most operators need several of these at once, often across more than one jurisdiction.
Which gaming licences can you help us obtain?
We support offshore licences such as Curaçao, Anjouan, and Tobique directly, and coordinate on more regulated regimes like the MGA in Malta. We help you choose the jurisdiction that fits your markets, payment partners, and budget, then handle the application and renewals.
Do you work with crypto casinos and sweepstakes models?
Yes. We structure crypto-casino and sweepstakes operations, review crypto on-ramp and PSP arrangements, and build the AML/KYC and responsible-gambling documentation those models require to stay onside with regulators and banking partners.
How do you handle AML and responsible gambling compliance?
We draft and maintain AML/CFT programs, KYC and player-verification flows, and responsible-gambling policies, and prepare the documentation regulators expect — then keep it current as the rules in your licensing jurisdiction change.
How is a flat fee different from an hourly law firm?
You pay a fixed monthly fee instead of per-hour invoices, so quick questions and document reviews are included and the bill is predictable. Standard tasks come with a 24-hour average turnaround, and our incentive is to resolve your work, not to bill more hours.
Is tax advice included?
Gaming-duty and tax structuring is included in the Full Service plan and led by ex-CFO operators. For Starter and Growth clients, tax questions can be handled as a separate engagement.
